Survey: Mapping Bio-collections
In France, numerous collections exist across various fields of health. These collections are preserved in diverse facilities, such as the Biological Resource Centers (BRCs) of healthcare institutions, as well as by other public and private institutions and National Research Organizations (NROs).
Despite this richness and diversity, the overall organization of bio-collections remains fragmented on a national scale, limiting their visibility, accessibility, and potential for exploitation in health research and innovation.
It is therefore essential to draw up an exhaustive map of biological collections to facilitate their visibility, with a view to national structuring and to support their development through health research and public-private partnerships.
Survey Objectives
Your responses will provide a national map of the structures hosting research collections and help us gather information on needs regarding structuring and support to strengthen their capabilities. This will serve as the foundation for developing the national digital platform for bio-collections, which will include, but is not limited to, a catalog and tools to assist and support the management of biological collections.
1. Map biological resource collections across the country and provide an exhaustive overview of these valuable assets for research.
2. Structure the ecosystem by identifying the needs of the facilities hosting these collections, in order to provide tailored support and strengthen their capabilities.
3. Build a national digital platform that will serve all stakeholders involved in the management of biological resources and facilitate their utilization for research.
Target Audience
This survey concerns all structures (public or private) in France that host human biological sample collections used, or available for use, in research.

1. Am I concerned by this survey?
This survey is a response to a mandate from the State (France 2030). It concerns all laboratories hosting human biological samples, regardless of their status (diagnostic laboratory, research laboratory, platform, BRC, public or private institutions, companies, etc.).
2. What is a collection?
This refers to a set of samples gathered for long-term or short-term use for scientific purposes.
3. I am not a FrBioNet partner, why should I provide information about my collections?
This survey aims to establish an exhaustive national map of biological resource collections for research, regardless of whether or not they belong to the FrBioNet network. Your participation contributes to better visibility and valorization of biological resources in France.
4. Who has access to the data I provide?
The data provided is accessible solely to the FrBioNet project team. The team may request the expertise of project members for data analysis. These experts are bound by strict confidentiality rules.
Data from Biological Resource Centers (BRCs) covered by MS ER03 (PIRAMIG campaign) will be accessible to the DGOS.

5. I host samples for research purposes, but I am not certain of their regulatory status.
You must declare all collections hosted by your structure, including those that are not currently subject to a CODECOH declaration (care).
6. I am affiliated with several parent organizations (multiple SIRET numbers): which one should I use to log in?
Use the SIRET number of your main establishment or the legal entity that handles your biological sample conservation activities.
7. I am a center hosting collections for a third party: who should respond?
We invite you (the structure hosting the collection) to complete the survey yourself for the collections you host. You may grant access to the file you are completing to other individuals (scientific managers, administrators) for collaborative input.
