Why this project?
Essential Resources for Biomedical Research, Biological samples, whether collected for clinical, interventional, or epidemiological studies, or as part of patient care, are stored in biobanks, most often in accredited and certified biological resource centers (BRCs), affiliated with healthcare facilities. Some important collections are also stored outside these structures, in healthcare facilities or research laboratories. The heterogeneity of practices and procedures, as well as insufficient visibility of resources, are obstacles to their use by researchers for academic or industrial research projects.
This is why, as part of the France 2030 plan, And under its «Health Innovation 2030» program, led by the AIS (Health Innovation Agency), the SGPI (General Secretariat for Investment), the DGRI (Directorate-General for Research and Innovation), and the DGOS (Directorate-General for Healthcare Provision), the Prime Minister has awarded funding to Inserm (project coordinator), the CNCR (National Research Coordination Committee), France Universités, RESPIC (association of 10 private non-profit healthcare institutions for research), and Unicancer (federation of 18 French cancer research centers) to form a consortium based on a national project, validated in September 2024. A mission letter details its ambitions and the actions to be implemented over a 5-year period. This project is managed on behalf of the State by the ANR (National Research Agency).
